A family's home is shot up in the middle of the night. Now, they want to move but can't.
The shooting happened at the Ashley Oak Apartment complex in Richmond's east end.
Nearly two dozen shots?were fired inside the home.
A mother, her 10-year-old son, and her three-year-old nephew were sleeping when the bullets began flying.
"The bullets went through the TV and landed here, here, and here [in the couch]" said Sharnell Hopkins.
Hopkins' home is peppered with bullet holes. They landed in her kitchen, her 10 year-old-son's bedroom, as well as her bedroom.
"As you can see, a hole came through my mirror and one landed on the wall over here," she added.
It happened earlier this month around 3 a.m.
"I have no idea who could have targeted my house. I don't bother anyone - no enemies. I've been here?eight and a half?years," Hopkins explained.
Out of fear for her family's safety, Hopkins says she requested to be placed in a different complex.
But the management office would only put her on a one-year waiting list.
NBC 12 went to the rental office to speak with management but was told the property manager was in a meeting and not available.
A?lawyer with Housing Opportunities Made Equal says ethically, management should expedite Hopkin's request - but legally...
"There's not a provision under?VA code under these circumstances that would require a landlord to move a tenant," said Heather Mullins Crislip, President & CEO of H.O.M.E.
Meanwhile, Hopkins is staying with family.
"We're blessed because it could have been tragic," said Hopkins.
Police are investigating the crime.
